Which WAF should you evaluate?
Consider Peakhour when you want to review WAF rules, bot decisions and rate limits through one request policy. Peakhour WAAP brings those controls together with API policy and decision logs.
Cloudflare offers managed rules, custom rules and rate limiting within its security platform. Staying with Cloudflare can suit a team whose current plan and tuning process already cover its applications. Compare the plan you use with the full set of controls you need.
What does your Cloudflare plan include?
Cloudflare's WAF overview documents rules for web and API requests, plus custom rules, rate limiting and security analytics. Feature scope varies by plan. Advanced Rate Limiting is a paid Enterprise add-on.
Its managed-rule guide lists a Free Managed Ruleset on all plans. The broader Cloudflare Managed Ruleset and Cloudflare OWASP Core Ruleset are available on Pro, Business and Enterprise. Teams can tune managed rules with exceptions and overrides.
Cloudflare Enterprise Bot Management is a separate Enterprise add-on with bot scores and custom controls. Include the required bot product in your evaluation if login abuse or scraping is driving the WAF review.
How does Peakhour approach the same work?
Peakhour documents OWASP Core Rule Set support, Atomicorp virtual patching and rule tuning in its WAF guide. Warning mode lets teams review matches before they enable blocking. Its custom-rule guide describes request conditions and staged testing.
Peakhour's bot management combines request behaviour, browser and network fingerprints, proxy context and route policy. Its WAAP product uses bot signals alongside WAF findings and rate controls, with logs that link the selected action to request context.
Peakhour also documents rate-limit zones that count selected requests or responses and can use a header, cookie or network fingerprint as the key. Test which key fits each route and how it affects clients that share it.
Can you keep Cloudflare during an evaluation?
Peakhour's existing-edge deployment option includes Cloudflare. Check which request details Peakhour receives and the order in which both services apply their rules before sending traffic through it. Assign one owner to resolve overlapping rules and keep a rollback plan.
Keeping Cloudflare alone may be sensible when its managed rules, exceptions and review tools already meet your requirements. Trial Peakhour when you have a specific gap in rule management, request logs or support that you can measure.
Peakhour is Australian-founded. Its support guide lists plan-based channels. Ask each provider to document support hours, data handling, processing locations and escalation contacts for your proposed service.
What should buyers check?
- Does the proposed plan include the managed rules, bot fields and rate controls each route needs?
- Can a rule exception cover one endpoint and method while preserving protection elsewhere?
- What body-size and content-type limits affect API calls and uploads?
- Can operators find the matched rule, chosen action and relevant origin result?
- What log retention, export and sampling apply to the logs your team needs?
- Who tests payment callbacks, partner integrations and mobile clients after a rule change?
How should you evaluate or migrate?
- Save Cloudflare rules, overrides, skip rules and rate limits. Record the reason and owner for each exception.
- Pick a route with a known problem. Measure attack samples, valid requests blocked and successful user tasks.
- Rebuild the policy intent for the proposed Peakhour path. Test in staging, then use warning or logging mode where supported.
- Review matched requests and adjust narrow exceptions. Test login, checkout, uploads and service clients.
- Enable controls gradually and compare results with the baseline. Expand after the application owner reviews the results and tests the rollback.
